Kathy's Notesof February 20, 2007 LAST MEETINGTwelve of us met this past Thursday, Feb. 15, with almost everyone showing some work, lots of technical talk, and some discussion on portraiture, which was good but too brief! Folks at the meeting indicated they would like me to keep sending out notes about the meetings, and notifying everyone of what's going on. If anyone wants anything different, bring suggestions to the next meeting. At the last meeting we decided this e-mail list is ONLY for Photo Collective stuff. Telling each other about our exhibits is fine. So please do not use this list for political info, jokes, and cute pictures. We have too much e-mail already! NEXT MEETINGAt our next meeting we will, as always, drool over each others' work in progress. At our next meeting we hope to discuss guidelines for our group. Please send me your concerns, ideas, wishes and visions by Wednesday, February 28. I will put them all out on e-mail again, as an agenda to be discussed at the next meeting. For example: how do we decide who is part of the photo group? Do you have to attend an occasional meeting? Or should we have a minimum number of meetings that one must attend in a years time? Or can you just be on the e-mail list? Should we have dues? If we have dues, does it take only paying dues to be part of the group? How do we keep our standards high? How should the meetings be run? How do we decide who is going to be in shows? Do decisions get made at the meeting, or through e-mail? All of us at the meeting agreed that decisions should be made at meetings, but we also liked the idea that any organizational changes would be made by mail, with ballots. At our next meeting we will also discuss putting together a membership directory of physical addresses, as well as phone numbers and e-mail addresses, to go to all the members of the group. I e-mailed Peter about doing a presentation on copyright registration, either next meeting, or the one after that. Our meetings are a pretty good mix of talking about business stuff, and looking at and discussing work. What kinds of things do you want the group to be doing? Yes, I know we've talked about this at various times, and thrown out different ideas, but now let's get it all out on the table and get it down, and get it in writing, and share it with everyone, and not have to discuss it again. WORK IN PROGRESSDanny will soon arrange website hosting for www.BrandywinePhotoCollective.org. He and I have each kicked in some money for this project, our "membership dues" for the year. These notes will go on the website, as well as links to members' websites, lists of members' exhibitions and, as it evolves, our organization's structure (or lack of it) and whatever else we can find time to put in place. We still hope to register as a non-profit, a 501c3, but neither Danny nor I have had time to do more than a first cursory reading of sample incorporations. It will happen. MUSINGSBeth Trepper and I were talking on the way home from the meeting, and we both said that the discussion on portraiture was really good, and that we wanted more of that kind of talking -- that's the main reason why we wanted a photo group. Neither one of us wants to get bogged down in the technical stuff, though we both want to know the technical stuff. We were wondering if people would be content if we ended up talking about just one or two photographers work, in depth, instead of worrying that we got around to everyone's work that night? Then we could make sure that the people who didn't get to show their work would be first the next time. Your thoughts? OK, that's everything I can think of. Remember: get me your thoughts and ideas for the group by the end of this month (please be brief!), I will consolidate, and that will be our agenda for the next meeting, in March. Thanks, everyone. Happy shooting! PS:Randy Ciurlino is showing at Colourworks on the Art Loop in March.
