Brandywine Photo Collective

Kathy's Photo Notes

of July, 2007 Brandywine Photo Collective meeting, at Delaware Art Museum:

Mickey's photo of Queen Anne's Lace from the ground, making the stalks look like tall trees
Very small meeting, only 6 of us there: me (Kathy Buckalew), Mickey Freed, Barbara Proud, Danny Schweers, Jeffrey Steen, and Carson Zullinger.

Copyright Presentation; Organization

Peter B. Kaplan could not attend and do his copyright presentation, as he was ill. Hopefully, he will do it at the next meeting.

Carson had some problems getting a checking account for the group! Seems like security is more intense, and now we need a business license. He gave the tax ID paperwork to Danny, since we will need that anyway to get the non-profit status. So hold off on sending checks to Carson for now, until we get this straightened out. And Carson will hold onto the checks he already has.

Looked at some work:

Danny showed us some more water shots and other current work including a beautiful, lush photo of his yard and house at dusk, through the trees, with lamplight showing in the window. And did it at 1.6 seconds, hand-held, using an image-stabilization lens while sitting in a chair.

Mickey had some new close-up photos of flowers and grasses in fields, wind-blown, shot from the ground up. Barbara suggested it would be neat to see them printed up really big, to emphasize the Lilliputian feel of them.

Carson showed some of the photos he did on a recent trip to the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone, 4x5 B&W and some digital color. He’s hoping he remembers how to print in the darkroom, since it’s been so long.

NOTE: the three images shown on this page were among those shown that evening.

October show at University City Arts League:

We still need some statements from y’all about your work, about “water,” to use in press releases. Please send to Sarah ASAP. I’ll need words as well, to make up into some kind of statement to put up at the exhibition. Please check last month’s notes on the web-site, to see what we’ll need for the show. We’re hoping to put out some kind of book with personal statement, background stuff, maybe CVs or resumes, whatever, for visitors to the show to go through.

Photo Exhibits at Delaware Art Museum

We thought it would be fun for whoever is around and feels like it, to meet at the other photo exhibit that is at the Delaware Art Museum: “Deceits and Fantasies.” We suggested Sunday, August 26, 1:00 p.m., for us to meet there. Admission is free on Sundays, and there is a little café, where we could sit and talk about the show afterwards.

The exhibit currently up at the DAM, “The Cultivated Eye”, which is up till October 21, and which includes some from this group, was mentioned in the New York Times, on their datebook page, on a couple of Fridays. Pretty cool, to have your name in the Times—well, it was for me, anyway! I have a few copies of the paper, if anyone wants copies. No review, or photo, or anything, just a listing.

Next meeting:

Thursday, August 16, 2007, 7:00 p.m., Delaware Art Museum.

Guess that’s it folks. Happy shooting!
