Notes from meeting, Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007, held at Sarah Barr’s house:
Attending: myself (Kathy B.), Sarah (of course!), Danny Schweers, Bill Pepper, Jeffrey Steen, and Stephanie Kirk.
UCAL Exhibit Opens Friday, October 5, 5:30-8:00 p.m.
UCAL will provide non-alcoholic beverages, cups and napkins. Here’s what we are bringing:
Beth: baked goodies of some sort
Sarah: wine, brownies
Danny: wine
Jeffrey: wine (do we detect a theme here?)
Bill: veggies and dip
Kathy: cheese and crackers
Stephanie: fruit (I think)
Anyone else wishing to contribute, please let Sarah or Kathy know what you will bring.
At this meeting at Sarah's, we mostly talked about the up-coming exhibit at University City Arts League, and looked at some prints that Jeffrey brought with him. We delivered most of the work we had for the show, so, for right now, it’s all at Sarah’s house.
Here’s who is in the show, as far as we know now: Sarah, Danny, Bill, Kathy, Beth T., Gerry, Eric, Mickey, Randy, Peter, David, Stephanie. We still are not sure about Jeffrey, Jim and Kitty Jones, and Lisa. Sarah has sent e-mails to those whose work we don’t have yet, or who we need to get final questions answered. Sarah needs to make labels for the show and get insurance on pieces in the show.
We will be hanging the show on Sunday, Sept. 30, starting at 10:00 a.m. We have a team of people set to hang the show (we don’t need any more, don’t come, it will be too confusing).
We need folks to take down the show on Friday, Oct. 26. Who might be available? Whoever does it needs to wrap everything, bring it home (maybe we can find a central place to take all the work and have people come and pick up their own pieces), touch up whatever holes we left in the walls when we hung the show, and generally make sure the room looks perfect.
Sarah will be checking on where UCAL has sent press releases already. She will see if they will add some places here in Delaware to send them to, or we will do that. And somehow, in the press release that was sent out, Peter was named as president of our collective. So now we know who to blame and who to go to for all our problems!! And we don’t have to worry about creating a structure for the group -- we have a president!
Sarah will be making labels for all the pieces in the show. So we need to have all the correct information ASAP, so she can get started.
Kathy will be making name tags for the opening. She will also write up some kind of statement to hang at the show. Danny will proof-read and edit, and make it look pretty, and get it printed out and matted or framed or something so it looks nice. Probably do it so it matches the labels that Sarah is making. Kathy will also put together a binder with clear, plastic sleeves to put everyone’s statement, CV, bio, whatever, in, for folks to look at during the opening. She will e-mail those who she needs more info from.

I think that’s it for the show. Please tell as many people as possible to come to the opening. We’d like to see a lot of folks there! Sarah still has postcards available, if anyone wants to send some out.
Jeffrey Steen's photos
Jeffrey showed some nice B&W’s he’d done of Jimmy Carter’s birthplace in Georgia. Some beautiful ones of light shining over the surface of school house desks (that was my favorite), and some still lifes of tools hanging in a barn, or workshop. He was working on a panoramic of Carter’s childhood house, shooting each segment of the house and surrounding land, and then taping them together into one long sequence. Made it look like the road was curved, and that the house was standing on an island, alone.
Other News
We discussed photo labs, and the difficulty getting work done satisfactorily, especially for folks that don’t have their own darkrooms. Colourworks photo lab got the highest recommendation from Sarah Barr, but everyone found it challenging to get the prints they want when someone else is doing the work.
The exhibit, “The Cultivated Eye: Brandywine Valley Photographers” is still up at the Delaware Art Museum, if you haven’t seen it yet. There till October 23. Many of our members are represented in this handsomely presented show.

The Photo Expo is in New York City, October 18-21, 2007. There are lots of interesting seminars, and tons of vendors and exhibits. Who all is going? Are there any day-trippers interested in going for Saturday? It’s possible to take the train for one day, or car-pool into the city. Let’s talk!
Next meeting: because of the Photo Expo, which opens on our usual 3rd Thursday of the month, we decided to hold the meeting

OK, folks, guess that’s it. If anyone has any questions, thoughts, concerns, ideas, whatever, please pass them on to me, and I will bring them up at the next meeting. And again, if anyone needs to answer a question put out by one person in e-mail, please just answer that one person, not everyone. We’re trying to get a handle on all the unwanted e-mails.
