Brandywine Photo Collective

Kathy's Photo Notes

Notes of the October, 2007

October's Brandywine Photo Collective meeting, at Delaware Art Museum was small: Mickey Freed, Randy Ciurlino, DeVere Patton, Jeffrey Steen, me, and Mickey's friend, Don Chorman.

Mickey showed us some exquisite photos from his recent trip to England: beautiful, soaring views of cathedrals, wonderful landscapes. And showed us some of his Photoshop CS3 magic—I even want to learn it, me, the purist, yep, it was pretty fun and some really terrific photos.

We talked about different places to show work. We were thinking we should start making a list of all possible places, with contact information, both for group shows, and for individual shows.

Photo Expo was in mid-October. I went up with Lisa and Barbara, Lisa and I just for the day; Barbara and Mickey stayed for a few days, and attended some of the seminars. I’m hoping they might be interested in giving us some of the highlights of the ones they went to. Mickey was all excited about Mary Virginia Swanson’s lecture—we’ve been talking about having her come down here for a weekend workshop, doing portfolio reviews and a public lecture.

Lisa Tyson Ennis is now offering custom printing, toning and hand coloring services. Click here to see her contact information.

A few of us had been thinking about doing a "home show" in December. Beth has done these before at her sister's house, with much success. I had asked Jim Graham a while back about doing this at his house, and he said yes. He lives right on Rt. 52, so it would be very easy to get to from Wilmington and PA.
We had lunch and discussed some details. We thought it should be the second weekend in Dec., the 8th & 9th, Sat. and Sun., probably from 11-4, more or less. If we decide to do this, we would have to get postcards designed, printed and mailed by the end of next week, right around Thanksgiving. Which would give about 2 weeks notice to people about the show. This is entirely an "art sale", with each person responsible for handling his or her own work, sales, money, display, etc. Jim said he would take down most of his work off his walls, so we would each have some wall space in which to hang work. And we'd each bring some munchies and drink to share with all. He and I thought we could some sort of raffle, too. It could be a nice holiday kind of thing to do. There is alot more that Jim and I talked about, but I think we should go over it all at the meeting. But first we have to decide if enough people are interested and able to do this. Think about it and let me know. You can send me an e-mail and we'll discuss at the meeting.

Our exhibit at UCAL is down. Thanks to all who hung the show, those who took it down, and Sarah for all the work she did. I’ll try and remember to bring some of the pics I took of the opening—once I got there after a 2-hour drive from Wilmington!

Beth Harpham has a new website at www.equidigital.net. She says, "I set up the whole website myself - the web host is totally AWESOME. They set you up with a downloadable user manual that actually WORKS, and when I had problems they had tech support that fixed the problems, gave advice, etc. overnight (the web host is in England). The site is super easy to use, clean - go check them out for yourself - www.Clikpic.com." Beth had previously been using SmugMug.

We will be showing at Colourworks in February, 2008. We will discuss particulars at the next meeting.
